Passive fire protection covers all the measures built into a building's structure that resist the spread of fire and smoke. This includes structural steel fireproofing, fire stopping at service penetrations, and fire compartmentation within the building fabric.

We carry out passive fire protection work on commercial buildings across Ireland and Northern Ireland, working on new build and refurbishment projects from shell and core through to full fit-out.

Monokote is the most widely specified spray-applied cementitious fireproofing product for structural steelwork in Ireland. FireShield Ireland holds the Irish application rights for Monokote and is the only licensed Monokote applicator on the island.

Structural steel must be protected to achieve the fire resistance period required by building regulations. We carry out structural steel fireproofing using spray-applied systems including Monokote and intumescent coating systems, advising on the most appropriate approach for each project.

Intumescent coatings are applied to structural steel where an architectural finish is required and a spray-applied product is not appropriate. The coating expands when exposed to heat, forming a protective char layer that insulates the steel.
